Oceanico Christie O'Connor Jr
Course, Algarve Portugal
Western Algarve Region, Par 72,
6719 metres, 2008
Green Fee Guide:
€€€€€ Buggy Included Overview: The O'Connor
course is located on the Amendoeira development, which is also home to the Faldo course. These are newer courses, and the huge
Amendoeira resort will take a few more years to complete. The O'Connor winds
around many lakes, but they should not come into play often. Reasons to play at the O'Connor
Golf: We think Christie O'Connor Jr has done a marvellous job in
designing a course for the visiting golfer. It's an honest design where you can
see what needs to be done with no blind shots. It's certainly challenging, but
at the same time it gives you a chance to play to your handicap. Factors to consider at O'Connor
Golf: Some parts of the
course suffer scenically from the development that is being built, but generally you have the feeling
of being in open countryside. The green fee is high but includes a compulsory buggy. Degree of difficulty of
O'Connor
Golf: Although it's a long
course, in fact longer than it's sibling the Faldo
course, you will find that your ball runs a long way on these firm fairways.
This really cuts the course down to size, and off the yellow tees a driver is
often not necessary. The O'Connor course has a lot of challenge, but it's a fair
course for the club golfer. Our overall verdict: We
like the O'Connor a lot and feel that will only improve as its environment
matures. Recommended
