Oceanico Faldo Golf Course, Algarve Portugal

Western Algarve Region, Par 72, 6598 metres, 2008

Green Fee Guide: €€€€€ Buggy included

Overview: Oceanico Developments' Amendoeira golf resort is located towards the west of the Algarve, near the town of Silves. It's home to both the Faldo and O'Connor courses. The photo above shows the imposing Amendoeira clubhouse overlooking the Faldo course.

Reasons to play the Faldo Course: If you enjoy a really serious challenge, then the Faldo is the place to play. We think it is possibly the toughest course in the Algarve to play to your handicap.

Factors to consider at the Faldo Course: The green fee is expensive, expect to pay upwards of £100 if booking tee times through one of the discount agents advertising on this website. The price includes a buggy, and you need it on the Faldo

Degree of difficulty of the Faldo Course: From the first hole, an uncompromising uphill par-4, Nick Faldo seeks to test your game. The Faldo course's real challenge is to your approach play and putting, which needs to be spot-on. The greens are heavily defended by serious bunkering and banks, and the putting surfaces slope every which way

Our overall verdict: A course for low handicappers. We think average club players will find the more forgiving O'Connor course next door more to their liking. Worth Considering
